Installation Instructions
1. Assemble The Unit
Assembling Scott Aerator Fountains typically takes 15-20 minutes. Instructions are provided. The kit includes:
- Pump with attached cylindrical casing and power cable
- Square float platform
- Protective stainless steel filter
- Decorative nozzle (not included with the DA-20 model)
- 5/16"x2" stainless steel bolts
- Stainless steel nuts and washers
- Self-tapping stainless steel screws
Tools Needed: A wrench (or socket driver) and pliers.
Assembly Steps:
- Place the fountain housing on a stable surface with the pump discharge facing upward.
- Attach nylon rope (not included) to the two stainless steel eyebolts for anchoring.
- Position the float and secure it using the provided bolts, washers, and nuts.
- Flip the fountain over, remove the Styrofoam doughnut, and install the stainless steel filter. Align the pre-drilled holes with the filter's marks. Secure the filter with the provided screws.
2. Attach Lights (Skip if lights were not ordered)
Scott Aerator light kits attach easily to the square float platform and include:
- (2) or (4) LED light fixtures with power cable
- 1/2" bolts and nuts
- (2) or (4) stainless steel arm brackets
- Timer/control unit
- Remote control (included only with color-changing lights)
Tools Needed: Wrench and pliers.
Note: The included timer/control unit is necessary for the lights to function. Do not disconnect the cord from the control unit, as this will void the warranty.
Assembly Steps:
- Attach each arm assembly to the water feature, ensuring the āLā is facing up. Remove one of the 2" bolts securing the float to the water feature, align the holes with the stainless steel arm, and reinsert the bolt with washer through the housing, float, and arm. Secure with a washer and nut. Repeat for the remaining arms.
- Attach each light to the stainless steel arms using the provided bolts and nuts. Adjust the light position along the arm by loosening the lock nut, positioning the light, and retightening the nut.
- Connect the lights to the Timer Control Unit by aligning the pins and securing the connector with a half turn. Avoid overtightening to prevent damage.
3. Place in Water
- Once assembled, the unit is ready to be placed in the water for final adjustments and anchoring.
- Handle the fountain with care to avoid putting weight on the stainless steel filter.
- Once the fountain head is submerged, secure it by screwing it into place (not applicable for the DA-20).
- Float the fountain to the desired location and secure the nylon ropes to the shore or use two submerged concrete blocks placed at least 20 feet apart.
- Finally, connect your fountain and lights to the power source. Always use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) and consult a licensed electrician for installation.
Buying Guide
Choosing Horsepower
- Horsepower influences the size and flow rate of the fountain's spray. Higher horsepower moves more water, resulting in a larger or denser spray.
- Selecting horsepower depends on your budget and the size of your pond. A good guideline is to keep the fountain spray at least 10 feet away from the pond's edge.
Choosing Voltage
- If you are uncertain, please contact us for assistance.
- If using 115V power, be mindful of the maximum distances from the pump to the breaker (including the power cord length).
- For 230V, distance is typically not a limiting factor.
Motor Size | Max distance from pump to breaker on 115V |
1/3 HP 115V | 280' |
1/2 HP 115V | 250' |
3/4 HP 115V | 200' |
1 HP 115V | 150' |
Choosing LED Lights (Optional)
- Lights can be purchased with your fountain or added later. Light sets attach easily to the float.
- Lights operate on 110V and come with their own power cord.
- Options include single-color warm white LED lights or color-changing LED lights.
- Both options include a programmable timer. Color-changing lights come with a remote control effective up to 1,000 feet away.
- A 2-light set is recommended for 1 HP and smaller fountains.
- A 3-light set is recommended for 1.5 HP and 2 HP fountains.
- A 4-light set is recommended for 3 HP fountains.
Choosing Timers (Optional)
- Timers can be purchased with your fountain or added later.
- Timers are designed to control the fountain operation only, not the lights.
- FAQ: The residential timer features a plastic casing, while the commercial timer has a metal casing; both function identically.
Additional Nozzles (Optional)
- Can't decide on a fountain pattern? Scott Aerator pumps are compatible with all Scott Aerator nozzles.
- Choose from 9 distinct nozzles for various spray patterns.
- Note: Not all nozzles are compatible with every motor size. Ensure you select nozzles that match your fountain's horsepower.

FAQ
Fountains
Q: How do I choose the right fountain for my pond?
A: This is a frequent question. First, determine if your primary need is aeration, aesthetics, or both. If aeration is the main goal, consider our Aerating Fountains, which move more water than aesthetic fountains. For aesthetics, there are many options. Ensure your pond is deep enough and the fountain's spray does not extend beyond the pond's edges. Each product page provides display sizes.
Note: Fountains are most effective at aerating water up to approximately 6 feet deep.
Q: How do I select the appropriate horsepower for a fountain?
A: Horsepower indicates the motor size, which influences the size of the spray pattern. Regardless of horsepower, ensure your pond is deep enough and the spray does not reach the edges. Our fountains are best suited for ponds a quarter acre or larger, depending on the shape. Consider your budget and desired visual impact when choosing horsepower.
Q: Should I hire a professional for fountain installation?
A: A licensed electrician should install the power source if one is not already present. Our fountains are designed for relatively easy installation once the power source is ready. Many customers install their own fountains to save costs, but consider your available resources and comfort level with electrical work.
Q: Which voltage is better for me: 110-120V or 210-240V?
A: 210-240V is generally better if the power source is located more than 70 feet from the main breaker. Ensure your power source can support the higher voltage for continuous operation. Choosing the lower voltage might result in the fountain cycling on and off or not performing optimally if the pond is too far from the main breaker. Contact us with any questions regarding voltage selection.
Q: Are lights included in the price of the fountain?
A: No, lights are not included by default. You have the option to order them with your fountain or purchase them separately later. Attaching them to the floating unit is straightforward and can significantly enhance the fountain's appearance.
Q: What factors influence the price of the power cord?
A: Material costs are a significant factor. Different power cord types are available, ranging from 14-gauge copper or stainless steel wire to 4-gauge options, depending on the fountain size and required cord length.
Q: Is it safe to leave my fountain in the water during winter?
A: Scott Aerator Fountains are built for year-round use. You can operate them continuously or turn them off during winter. They can be restarted once the ice melts.
Aerators
Q: Can aeration help maintain fish health and clean my pond?
A: Yes, absolutely. Aeration is the initial step in improving pond water quality.
Q: How do I choose the right aerator for my pond?
A: The size and depth of your pond will determine the appropriate aerator. Our Surface Aerators and Aerating Fountains are suitable for ponds under six feet deep, while Sub-Surface aerators are recommended for deeper ponds.
Q: How do I install my aerator?
A: Consult a licensed electrician if a power source has not been installed. Our aerators are designed for easy installation once the power source is ready. Many customers successfully install the equipment themselves to save money, but consider your resources and comfort level with electrical work.
Q: How should the aeration setup be configured for best results?
A: An ideal setup includes a surface aerator or aerating fountain combined with a Sub-Surface aerator to effectively circulate oxygen from the pond's bottom.
