Common Questions
Q: How do I select the right fountain?
A: Your choice depends on your goals: aeration, visual appeal, or both. For aeration or a combination, we recommend our Aerating Fountains due to their high flow rates. For aesthetics, consider the various display options, ensure your pond meets the minimum depth, and that the display size is appropriate for your pond.
Q: How do I determine the required horsepower?
A: Horsepower influences the size of the spray pattern. Make sure your pond meets the minimum depth for the chosen horsepower and that the spray won't reach the pond's edges. For ponds a quarter acre or larger, base your selection on desired appearance and budget.
Q: Is professional installation necessary for my fountain?
A: If there isn't a power source near the pond, consult a licensed electrician. Fountain installation is straightforward, and many customers install their own to save money. Fountains float in the pond, secured by two anchors, and connect to the power source via a submersible cord.
Q: How do I choose between 110-120V and 220-240V?
A: If your power source is more than 70 feet from the main breaker, choose 220-240V to ensure adequate power delivery. Verify that your power source can handle the higher voltage to prevent inconsistent performance.
Q: Are lights included with the fountain?
A: Lights are not standard but can be purchased with the fountain or later. They easily attach to the floating unit and are highly recommended for nighttime viewing.
Q: Why is the power cord expensive?
A: The cost reflects the materials used. Depending on the fountain, the power cord is constructed from 14-gauge to 4-gauge copper or stainless steel wire, ensuring durability and performance.
Q: Can I leave my fountain in the water during winter?
A: Scott Aerator Fountains can operate throughout the winter. They should either run continuously or be completely shut off during the winter months. Once the water thaws, simply restart them.
